- “Permission To Go Fishin’ “
(i)
Never saw it coming, but then again I never thought –
That Day in Wal-Mart filling up our shopping cart,
Was not who she really was –
She always said, “Baby I love to fish”
Then we said those vows down on the Bay…
The story changed and the babies came,
There wasn’t anything left to say.
(Chorus)
PERMISSION to go FISHIN…I never would have listened –
To those lying eyes, In that Wal-Mart Superstore…
A couple Mountain Dews, A bag of Culprits too –
Didn’t know what I was in for…
This ol boy wasn’t fishin’ much anymore.
But now I sit here and keep WISHIN… For PERMISSION to go FISHIN.
(ii)
Time rolls on, and most wounds heal - I came home and left a note on her fishing reel: "Not storms or high seas, will be too much for me... And in case I go MISSIN' -" Didn't want to ask PERMISSION to go FISHIN'...
(Chorus)
PERMISSION to go FISHIN..I never should've listened - To those lying eyes, In that Wal-Mart Superstore.. A couple Mountain Dew's and a bag of Culprits too, (I) didn't know what I was in for... This ol boy wasn't fishin' much anymore. (and) Knowing then what I know now - I would have left her anyhow, But now I sit here and keep WISHIN, For PERMISSION to go FISHIN.
(iii)
You can take my truck, or even lock me up - Or somehow worsen my condition. When I'm gone, I'm gone - Then she'll know she was wrong, For all the ways she was INSISTIN, I get PERMISSION to go FISHIN..
(Chorus Insert Finish)

2. “Grass”
(i) Our Life together is like the sod in our backyard, Never knew getting it to grow, would have been this hard. We used to be home team in our younger days, Can't even keep the grass healthy and green - Instead____it's dying away. Chinch bugs and disease, getting the best of me - Like all those hurtful things we say. (chorus) That grass looks greener, 'Cuz you've never been meaner... Gonna have to graze on it, Lay around for days on it. With just one taste, You'll be quickly replaced. Just wondering what the flavor is like, If it's filled with love, Or full of spite... Can't take another knockdown fight - With you. That grass looks greener. (ii) Sometimes you plant, And the grass just won't grow. No matter the water, or the seeds you try to sow. Gifts and Flowers...might as well been manure - But feelings can't be fixed with Miracle Grow. By the tone in your voice, Its my time to go. I don't want to stay, I'll find a new pasture where I can lay (chorus) That grass looks greener, Cuz you've never been meaner. Gonna have to graze on it, Lay around for days on it. With just one taste, You'll be quickly replaced (-or- memory erased alt.) Just wonderin' what the flavor is like, Is it filled with love, Or full of spite? Can't take another hurtful fight... With you. Gotta check if that grass is greener. (iii - Outro) Grass looks greener with sun and rain - With your demeanor, You don't seem the same. Every time we fight, It's like mowing our grass... When you cut it too short, It just don't grow back.

3. “These Days”
(i) Not the same around here these days - We don't talk, and seldom wave. Guess there ain't a whole lot to say, To one another. Our Vices grip harder - Even though we should be smarter, Maybe should listen to Our Father, And get to know each other... (chorus) Coming up we did keg stands, Walked up and asked pretty girls to dance. Got shot down, But we took that chance - And had to look into their eyes... Gummy Bears never caused a scare, 'Wild and Crazy' meant some "truth or dare", Kids didn't have a care. Could we survive without this device, Let's power down and try to connect tonight. (ii) Take your hat off and stay a while, Can't text a handshake or tweet a smile - Conversation went out of style, How can we ever get it back? Chit-chat when batteries get low, Quick! Charge it up so you can find your way home... Twitter feeds don't have your pretty eyes, Turn it off and turn me on tonight - (chorus-outro) Coming up we did keg stands - Walked up and asked pretty girls to dance. Got shot down, But we took that chance And had to look into their eyes... Gummy Bears never caused a scare - 'Wild and Crazy' meant some "Truth or Dare", Kids didn't really have a care - Drugs we did, rarely killed a man. Coming up we did keg stands.

4. "Big Country" (i) There's an old friend of mine, I think about all the time - You can't not see him, He stands about 6 foot 9. I don't know him now, But hope he's doin' real good somehow... This here's Big Country, To the ladies a Pimp - Lived in the Frat house, And would strut with a limp. Came from the Lake City, But no city boy at all_______(slow) Great style, Crooked smile - With his North Florida draw. (chorus) This here's Big Country, Everyone should see - So damn crazy... And funny as can be. In his young days, Strong as a tree; But the drugs and booz, Made him a real sad dude - Then knocked him to his knees. (ii) This here's Big Country, One of my favorite old friends - He'll bum a smoke off you, Then start drinking again. Spent years and years at college here, Never once went to class - But you could damn sure bet, If you needed him - He would have your back (slow),___taken them to the grass - And kick someone's ass. (chorus) This here's Big Country, Everyone should see - So damn crazy, And funny as can be. In his young days, Strong as a tree - But things in life and one ex-wife, Made him a sad dude Then knocked him to his knees... (outro) This here's Big Country, A joke to some - Good man to most... He'll steal your girl, Then raise a toast. Ole Big Country, Damn near 10 feet tall....(slow) So_hard_to_see_him_fall, Big Country ____________________________________________ 5. "Tailgate" (i - intro) Swish, swish, up and down - Showing everybody why you came around. Swish, swish here you come! The party 'round here's bout to get more fun! We eat burgers and wings and drink ice cold beer - We cheer for the team, but you're the reason we're here... Ruff Lotto, good friends, and lots of booze, But none of that's enough to truly set the mood - hey! (Chorus) You brought the tail to my tailgate - I must say that its first rate. Drop my jaw and I give thanks - (even if our team doesn't win..) Girl you know you got us hypnotized - It's not your laugh or your pretty smile, Man I'm hoping that you stay a while Not saying that I want to date, But thanks for bringin' your tail to my tailgate! (ii) Dance, dance in your yoga pants, Dance, dance in your yoga pants. Drop to the ground in your three-point stance. I'm the quarterback and you know what to do - Ready, Set, Hike 1, Hike 2 Smoking hot and a big ole flirt - What I want to do now, will probably get me hurt. Sixer throw back, CAREFUL GIRL! Keep your lights on so I can give you a whirl. (Bridge / Breakdown lol) It's not a table dance, just a three-point stance, Not a table dance, just a three-point stance. Swish, swish / side to side - Take a Jello-O shot girl because you feel alive. Thank you, thank you, thank you....(flow into chorus) (Chorus) You brought the tail to my tailgate - We all see that it's first rate. Drop my jaw and I give thanks, (even if the Noles never win..) Girl you know you got us hypnotized, It's not your laugh or your pretty smile - Man, we're hoping that you stay a while... Have to say the game turned out great, 'Cuz you brought your tail to my tailgate. **when I wrote the chorus to this song, I couldn't keep that song by Craig Morgan "That's What I Love About Sundays" out of my head - pretty ironic you can also tailgate on Sunday! (just not as wholesome of a topic :))

6. "Todd Mann Eulogy" (RIP 03/18/1977 - 03/20/1999) It was always so good to see you, That brilliant smile upon your face. You gave us support and friendship, A bond time will never erase. God saw the void in all our lives, And sent you from above. You possessed the innocence of a child, And a heart of unconditional love. You overlooked the worst in us, Choosing only to see the best. Spirit always full of joy, By Lord you were truly blessed. On this day you depart this Earth, And the Heavens so proudly sing. This Angel who walked among us, Does now receive his wings. This pain we feel today cuts sharp, And we shall each cope as best we can. But in heart & spirit you remain forever, Our friend and Brother - William Todd Mann Rest in Peace Dear Friend ________________________________ 7. "My Truck Runs Good" (chorus - slow) Better than it should! (pause)____My truck runs good. She always gets me there, Never have a care. Every single day - Trailblazin', head turnin' along the way. Tows that boat that never runs, Back window rack for all my guns... Change the oil as often as I should, Damn my truck runs good! (i) Can't say the same 'bout my romancin'. Can't say the same 'bout my financin'. My friendships never go all that well, Pretty much my life's a living hell. Don't even sleep good in my own bed, The pets I've had always turn up dead - At least my truck runs good. (ii) Can't say the same 'bout my lawn mower, Can't say the same 'bout my leaf blower. Outboard motors never run as they should, You'd think my chainsaw could cut some wood. My tin roof needs major repair, Even my dog is losing all her hair. Guess I really shouldn't care, At least my truck runs good! (chorus insert) (iii) Can't say the same 'bout this broken man. Can't say the same 'bout my dental plan. Blood pressure is through the roof, My stress level is living proof. Girls never give me a second glance, Maybe a victim of circumstance... And still my truck runs good!

8. “Wanna Die”
(i) I paid Paul, It wasn't Peter's after all. Time to stand tall. Nah, I just wanna crawl... Life didn't go all that well, What a sad, sad story to tell - It ain't about pride, I just wanna die. (chorus) Dissect all the problems I have with me. Digest why I'm not the man I was born to be. Divert all my trouble to some other guy. Divulge all these feeling that I have inside. Digress to the young man I once was. Dynamite living with lots of love. Dine for a dime, diabolic good time. I just wanna die. (ii) That tunnel light I see but I just can't make it there. Some stars shine bright, Others you just can't see at night. If I didn't care, Then these eyes wouldn't cry - I just wanna die, I just wanna die. (chorus insert) (iii) When you live and lose, Some things are easy to choose. Cause you just don't give a damn. Knocked to your knees, beggin' please - But knowing that you can, Be better than 'him' and finally start to win. Maybe I'll keep on tryin', Instead__of__wishin'__I__was__dyin' (real slow) (chorus - outro) Dissect all the problems I have with me. Digest why I'm not the man I was born to be. Divert all my troubles to some other guy. Divulge all these feelings that I have inside. Digress to the young man I once was. Dynamite livin' with lots of love. Dine for a dime, diabolic good time. I just wanna die.

9. "Cold Beer" (i) My Cold Beer... Doesn't have a 'year'. 'Cuz they're made to not stay around very long. Life span as such, She was bottled last month ----(pause) When she gets a little skunky, Gets me feelin' little funky - Keep 'em coming 'til I say stop. Fill 'em up, So I can drink 'em up - Good down to the last drop, Cold Beer. (chorus) Not everything gets better with age, My "Born on Date" was just the other day. That 1979 Wine I'm sure is real fine, Or your 30 year Single Malt Whiskey... But if you ever roll with me, Cold Beer it will be. (ii) My Cold Beer, Doesn't have a 'year'. They always pretty much taste the same. From the fridge or the Yeti, Farm fields and factories from which they came. When it was made, and where it's from - Might matter to some, But to me, I cannot quite differentiate. Cold Beer. (chorus) Not everything gets better with age, My beer's 'Born on Date' was just the other day. That Wine from '89, I'm sure is really fine - Or your 50 year single malt Whiskey... And if you ever get to drinkin' with me, Cold Beer it will be.

10. "Her" (i) Yes, I saw her. She was just sitting there. Tried real hard not to stare, Pretty blue eyes and her dark brown hair. But she simply took my breath away... I don't know if she noticed me, Ball cap, and braces on my teeth. I was gonna try anyway, Thank God I saw her today. (ii) Yes, I got her. Worked real hard just to make her smile, With some luck in just a little while - Fell in love on that Summer day. And I must say, by the way - She was sweeter than I'd ever known, I gave her love like I'd never shown. Lucky I got her. (iii) Yes, I loved her. We were one for a long time, And 'forever' was surely on my mind. Until the day she didn't want it anymore, Not really sure... But she walked right out the door. Can't believe I won't ever see her again, Didn't say she still wanted to be friends. Sad I lost her. (iv - outro) Sometimes you never know how your life will go - At times it's harder than you've ever known. This girl I saw, then got, then loved, then lost - She didn't know what she did to me. Will never know as far as I can see.

11. "Lyin'" (i) Well that sky out my window, Is kind of looking like a pillow; Or the comfy sheets in the bed we used to lay. Flyin' out of town on this night, Ran out of love, and out of sight - Today...(pause) I chose to tell you the truth. (chorus) Lyin' never hurt no one - It's when you tell the truth, that you lose someone. Couldn't have known, should have cared, Thought of leaving you left me scared; So I just took both. Then I woke up, looked around, and looked at you not makin' a sound - Gotta tell you I've been running round this town. Should have lied, so you wouldn't cry...(pause) Lyin' never hurt no one. (ii) That plane touched down in Miami, Guilty conscious enough to kill me - Had to let you go. With all your questions and your worry, Had to get outa there in a hurry; Just too much sorrow. In your eyes from the surprise, Your tears started to follow. I was hoping you would stay, To laugh and hold hands another day - But I ruined that. If I would've lied, you'd be here, Who knows for how many years, And I wouldn't be wishing you were back. (chorus) Lyin' never hurt no one - It's when you tell the truth that you lose someone... Couldn't have known, should have cared, Thought of leaving you left me scared, So I just took both. Then I woke up, looked around and looked at you not makin' a sound, Gotta tell you I've been running round this town. I should have lied, so you wouldn't cry...(pause) Lyin' never hurt no one. (iii - outro) As I'm sitting here I realize, I never had to tell you anything. But I told you because I thought it was right, Not very smart thinking. The next time as I'm sure to cheat - There won't be this confession to repeat... (chorus insert)

12. "My Boat's A Four Letter Word" (i) No Mr., she's not for sale - And she's not feeling so well. She's not a great companion, Sometimes she'll leave you stranded. Paddlin' back home after fishing tonight, Prayed my "SeaTow" was soon in sight... By her looks it may sound absurd, My Boat's a four letter word. (chorus) Every time I go out on it, Something else always breaks on it. Wondering if the fish will even bite, 'Cuz her fish finder ain't finding right... Fuel lines clogged, Nav screen fogged - Problem after problem taking money to solve. Guess I don't take good enough care of her, My boat's a four letter word. (ii) When we get offshore, problems for sure - Planers broke, Two strokes won't stroke. Lights won't light, Pumps won't pump. Hang on tight 'cuz my sump won't sump! Riggers won't rig, so my jigs can't jig. Going fast, giving her gas - Sputter-sputter-then-stall, Making me want to ball... Now doesn't seem so absurd, My boat's a four letter word. (chorus) Every time I go out on it, Something else always breaks on it. Wondering if the fish will even bite, Her fish finder ain't finding right... Fuel lines clogged, Nav screen fogged - Problem after problem taking money to solve. Guess I don't take good enough care of her, My Boat's a four letter word!

13. "On A Bad Day" (loose structure to the lyric arrangement - short hook with rambling lines) On a bad day, Should have had 5-10 more years... Not sittin' here, Eyes full of tears. Don't want to go right now, Wish I could stick around somehow. Why me, With this tragedy? When my spirit leaves, My kids will grieve - And miss their Dad you'll see. You'll never know, How I loved you so... But I have way more to give, With this little time left to live. Get Jessica here, Hand me my last cold beer. Light this cigarette, Then shed a tear. (outro) On a bad day, 5-10 more years anyway... More love to give, No more time to live - Such a bad day. _______________________ 14. "I've Got To Run" (i) Well I don't know what to say - As I watched you walk away. You were never there, and you didn't care --- To get to know me anyway. Blood binds us, lost years behind us, See you in a few months; And tomorrow's another day. (chorus) Dad, I've got to run. It's been lots of fun. Run from my heart, run from the truth - At times not knowing what it is I should do: Do we talk?...do we fish?...do we drink?...do we wish?? We run from our past, And there's more pain yet to come___ Dad, I've got to run. (ii) See me now with these two kids, Mid-life and in the grind - Feel free to write, feel free to call, If we are ever on your mind. Chances are, If I know you - You will not take the time. Your world has always been, Much more important than mine. (chorus) Dad, I've got to run. It's sure been lots of fun. Run from my heart, Run from the truth. Maybe better off without you Do we talk?...do we fish?...do we drink?...do we wish?? We run from our past, And there's more pain up ahead. Dad, I've got to run. ______________________
15. "Time to Go" (dedicated to Shamshad & Shahzad Ali - gfy) (i) I met a camel jockey, Who said he liked to play hockey - He learned the game in Toronto years ago... Crossed our border to the North, Safe Haven for him of course - He was lucky to get here, but then started to not care... It's time to go. (chorus) This Western wind is gonna' blow, blow, blow - Maybe then you'll see this ain't no joke, joke, joke. When you tread on me, It's very clear you see - That you're kickin' this gift horse in the mouth. Don't like our ways?? Go back to the sand and stay - Time to push you and your whole family out... This Western Wind___is gonna' blow, blow, blow - Then you'll know it's time for you to go, go, go. (ii) Their countries battered and beaten, Holy Wars and people mistreated - Two brothers decide to fly West into the wind. Came to the land of plenty, from a land of empty - Hoping to start a new life and somehow win. But their inherent ways bring darkness to their days. Can't understand American freedoms we hold so dear. We don't want you here - It's time to go. (chorus) This Western Wind is gonna' blow, blow, blow - Maybe then you'll see this ain't no joke, joke, joke. When you tread on me, it's very clear you see - That you're kickin' this gift horse in the mouth. Don't like our ways? Go back to the sand and stay. Time to push you and your whole family out... This Western Wind____is gonna blow, blow, blow - And then you'll know it's time for you to go, go, go. (outro) Whether uptown or downtown, Big cities or small towns - Everyone should respect the ground they're walking on. If you don't, then I can't - Stand by and let you rant, About our Western ways being all wrong. Not Sorry you should know, You're planting seeds that just won't grow___ Pick up your gear, And get the Hell 'outa here. It's time to go. __________________ 16. "Change" (i) Sitting on that canal bank only 5yrs young, Night crawlers, fishing pole, and my best friend Mike. Didn't know, didn't care tryin' to figure it out - Then along came that bite from a little Largemouth. I was hooked, and longed to sit there every day - Though my life may change, This love for fishin' stays the same... (ii) Years passed, And pretty girls replaced the Bass. Time on the water, Turned into time chasing someone's daughter. No longer cared if the fish would bite, Only worried 'bout what I was doing Friday night. Ran through them Phillies, Until it almost killed me... Though my life may change, My love for pretty girls stays the same... (iii) I met you and you met me, Now it's you and me making this life complete. With our daughters and the house it all tastes so sweet. Re-visit that old canal bank with my own kids, Hopin' they have the same thrills their Daddy did; If not, it's okay, Wouldn't dream of Changing their natural ways. Though my life may change, Love for my children stays the same. (outro) Life is short and what do you know - Blink a couple times and your kids are grown. But the fish keep biting, And your love keeps inviting____(pause) Me to make new memories and grow, Life will keep on a changin', I stay tuned to the show.
- “Smoking”
(i)
Now-a-days you have to be good,
Do what the world says you should.
‘Could-a’ ‘Should-a’ been a millionaire,
Problem is I just didn’t care.
Taught myself to be a man,
A good husband on the family plan.
The_straight_road_I’m_onโฆ(slow & deliberate)
Is about to start curving – (slow down)
A little fun now is what I’ve been yearningโฆ
(chorus)
Think I’ll start smoking again,
Things were much better back then.
Late night bars, playing my guitar,
And hanging out with my friendsโฆ
To re-create what made it great,
Some would call a sin.
“Grown up” now, but miss those days,
I think I’ll start smoking again.
(ii)
My head still ain’t right,
After all our fun last night.
It had been a while,
Without wearing that party smile;
But we sure had fun.
It reminded me,
As beer blinded me,
We’ve been living with no play.
It’s a perfect time,
To speak my mind –
And make changes in the days that remainโฆ
(chorus)
Think I’ll start smoking again,
Things were much simpler back then.
Tiki Bars, taking things too far,
And hanging out with my friendsโฆ
To re-create what made it great,
Not sure where to begin.
But I’ll try like hell, cuz I miss those days,
I think I’ll start smoking again.
- “Millertime”
(intro)
Time (pause)___is such a precious thing.
We can whine and wonder ’bout how much we have,
And what days left might bring.
As it goes away, sitting around feeling sad –
‘Bout the lack of time we made.
(i)
I’m looking for a Millertime,
You won’t stop giving me a hard time.
We tailgated ’til almost halftime –
Now the game’s going into overtime.
If we win then it’s party timeโฆ
You say you can’t keep wasting your time.
Dolphins win so it’s Millertime.
(chorus)
Millertimes come and Millertimes go –
With the people you love and your life that growsโฆ
In a can or a bottle or a Red Solo Cup,
Memories are made and we should drink ’em up.
Drinking wine sometimes is not a crime,
But my team plays better when it’s Millertime.
(ii)
I’m looking for a Millertime,
But for you it’s goodbye time,
Not looking for a good time,
Can’t believe it’s our last time,
Up ’til now, it’s been the best time;
Every day felt like the first time,
My plane is leaving you in Eastern Standard Time.
Can’t think of a better Millertime.
(chorus)
Millertimes come and Millertimes go –
With the people you love and your life that growsโฆ
In a can, or bottle, or red Solo cup,
Memories are made and we should drink ’em up.
Drinkin’ wine sometimes shouldn’t be a crime,
But break-ups are easier during Millertime.
(iii)
I’m looking for a Millertime,
Plane touched down in Pacific Coast Time,
Wet my line ‘cuz it’s fishin’ time,
Offshore with you is my favorite time,
We haven’t been here in such a long time,
No, not this time___
Looking forward to our Millertime.
(chorus -outro)
Millertimes come and Millertimes go –
With the people you love and your life that growsโฆ
In a can, bottle, or red Solo cup,
Memories are made and we should drink ’em up.
Drinkin’ whiskey sometimes never is a crime,
But the fish bite better when it’s Millertime.

- “Scars From These Bars”
(i)
Well, I was getting drunk –
‘Bout to try my luck, til Ol Haus walked up and said, “what theโฆ
Hell is your name?” (pause)
So I repeated the same.
He said, “Damn fool, get off your stool,
And walk out back by the trucks.”
The Tango began, I couldn’t think of a plan –
To rid myself of this manโฆ
Soon I couldn’t stand, but somehow I ran –
Back into that smokey bar.
Hottie bartender asked, “Want another glass?”
I Said “NO!, That Old Man just kicked my ass!”
(chorus)
I got some scars from the Bars.
Some look a lot worse than they areโฆ
If you saw the Other Guy,
You’d wonder why anyone would ever Start (pause)_
Messin’ around with me –
After tequila makes me see “3”.
Can’t sing, dance, or play the guitar,
But got some good scars from these Bars.
(ii)
By mistake they took me to this place –
Cop said I punched one of them in the face.
Everyone inside has made some mistake –
Except for me ‘cuz I was framed ๐
Took some hits in that damn holding cell –
Told ’em all they could “go to hell”,
Didn’t get along all that wellโฆ
Attorney wouldn’t pick up her phone –
Behind these bars I’m feeling alone.
(chorus)
I got some scars from these Bars –
Some look a lot worse than they areโฆ
If you saw the Other Guy –
You’d wonder WHY anyone would ever Start (pause)_
Messin’ aorund with ME after them Beers knock me to my knees.
Stuck in Jail and still can’t play the Guitar,
But got some good scars from these Barsโฆ
- “Next Thing”
(intro)
Not quite sure what I’m doing here!
Damn sure know I could use a Beer –
(c)
Looking forward to that next thing,
Not sure what the day might bring.
Every morning that alarm clock rings –
Saying “get on up and get on your feet”โฆ
What was here is now long gone,
Just going to have to keep on, keeping on.
Sitting here before I move along,
Wonder if I can stay strong โฆ
Looking forward to that next thing.
When you make things bad that were always good,
And you do those things that you never should –
The lights go dim and you start to wonder why you’re here.
If I knew I could,
Then I damn sure would;
Live in this moment that’s here.
Still can’t believe you gave me back that diamond ring,
Looking forward to that next thing.
(c)
Lookin’ forward to that next thing,
Not sure what the day might bring.
Every morning that alarm clock ringsโฆ
Hey get up and get on your feet!
What was here is now long gone,
Just gonna have to keep on keepin’ on.
Siting here before I move along,
Wondering if I can stay strong.
Looking forward to that next thing.
- “Moore Haven Blues”
Brown eyes, chicken thighs, Mottle Duck luck –
Go Devil, airboat getting through the muck.
Skeeter, Ranger, Nitro ___Tracker Tracker Go!
No wake speed zone putting on a show.
Millertime, Millertime: “Dad, toss me two!”
Wheat barley, wheat barley hurry up and shoot.
“Grizzly” growling through the marsh get your wader boots stuck;
Lilly mat, Coot scat folding all them ducks.
Going to the Monkey Box,
Maybe I’ll take a shotโฆ
Pintail Drake is what I really want to shoot –
But I’m really happy just being with you.
We got the Moore Haven Blues,
Doing what we shouldn’t do.
Knocking em down, tearing it down, running all over this little town.
Probably can’t do what you want me toโฆ
We’ll tell some lies drinkin’ under this moon.
Really happy just to be with you,
With these Moore Haven blues.
- “Coffin Stompin'”
(chorus)
Dearly departed –
Let’s get this party started.
Start dancin’, start drinking, start hooting and a hollerin’!
Grim Reaper came a callin’,
Time for some coffin stompin’.
(pause)
Stomp to the left, stomp to the right,
I just stared this endless sleep tonight.
No need for a sad long eulogy,
Just tie one on and have a drink for me.
Coffin’ stompin’ girl try not to fall!
Dig you heels in and have a ballโฆ
(i)
The service is over,
Tears are almost gone –
They were lying when they said the ‘good die young’.
Wearing my suit in this coffin where I lay,
I’d rather you dance and drink, instead of cry and pray.
Just because I passed away,
Doesn’t mean you have to stay –
Sitting there with your running mascara.
So y’all carry on, but bring my coffin along –
My spirit can still drink to a country song.
(chorus)
I’ve recently departed,
Time to get this party started.
Start dancin’, start drinkin’, start hootin’ & hollerin’.
Grim Reaper came a callin’,
Time for some coffin stompin’.
(pause)
Stomp to the left, stomp to the right,
All tucked-in for this endless sleep tonight.
No need for a long sad eulogy!
Just get Merle Haggard drunk for me;
Coffin stompin’ girl try not to fall!
Dig your heels in and have a ball.
(ii)
Time to stroll up to the keg,
There is no line –
For the music is rocking and I have the time!
What else is this big pine box good for?!
Hop on up!, It’s a Dance Floor;
Shimmy and shake it,
Girl, you’re certain not to break it.
(slow – Outro)
And when you’re done,
And the keg runs dry –
You’ll get your shovels out,
With a tear in your eye,
To dig that hole where I’ll be for a while.
Now put your drinks down,
It’s time you put me in the ground.
Six feet under with a smile.
*(In my head, I hear that outro sounding like the end to the “Daniel Tiger” theme song:)
- “Blue Creek Road”
(i)
Riding around this nowhere town,
Roll my windows down,
Just to hear the soundโฆ.
Of them ‘Wild Country’s’ on the black top whine.
Knobby tires and Skoal really took it’s toll,
George Strait and Busch, were what we needed to roll.
“Circle K” buffet, no real dinner in mind,
All the girls flirting after all that wine.
If I knew that I could, would make ’em all mine,
Square Pond and the Circle,
One thing’s for certain –
Pony keg won’t last all night.
(chorus)
Catch us if you can!
Was our message to “the man”.
Backseat, cuffs on never gonna be the plan.
Don’t try to hold our hand,
So we can learn to standโฆ
Looking for some tailgate love, under stars above.
If we don’t get none, then fisticuff fun, long necks and bud.
Couldn’t catch us if you tried,
Jump in the bed let’s ride!
Wake up the next day (pause) little headache,
Let’s do it all again tonight!
(ii)
Beer cans flying when we saw blue lights,
35×12.50’s humming in the night.
Back roads, dirt roads, never gonna slow us down.
Sharps Ferry Road ahead, trying to clear our heads –
If we get caught, Mom will kill us dead.
Kill the lights, stash the truck —- and chug a beer for luck,
Until the cops head back to town.
(chorus)
“Catch us if you can!”,
Was our message to ‘the man’.
Backseat, cuffs on never gonna be the plan.
Don’t try to hold our hand,
So we can learn to stand.
Needing some tailgate love, under stars above.
If we don’t get none, then fisticuffs fun, long necks and bud.
Couldn’t catch us if you tried,
Hop in the back, let’s ride!
Wake up the next day (pause) little headache,
We’ll do it all again tonight!
- “Same Difference”
(i)
I could tell you!โฆBut then I’d have to kill….. THIS BEER.
Not something that you want to hear,
But better than riding that three board fence.
(Chorus)
Best believe I made up my mind,
Up & down or black & white.
Couldn’t even make it work on this special night,
Same Differenceโฆ
Same difference in the way I hold you –
Same difference in the words I told you –
Same difference in your look and the vows we tookโฆSame Difference
Same difference in the way you hold my hand –
Same difference in my patience to understand –
Same difference as a man trying to follow your planโฆSame Difference
Talk. Talk. Talk. Talk. – Ain’t more time to talk.
Walk. Walk. Walk. Walk. Now’s the perfect time to walk.
(ii)
Now every time I go to hold you,
You act as if you don’t want me to.
What’d I do to put us in this place?
What I wouldn’t do to put a smile back on that face.
I laugh, you cry – you give up, and I try.
(chorus)
Best believe I made up my mind,
Hot and cold, wrong or right.
Still isn’t workin’ on this special night,
Same Difference.
Same difference in the way that I hold you.
Same difference in the words that I told you.
Same difference in your look and the vows we tookโฆSame difference.
Same difference in the way you hold my hand.
Same difference in my patience to understand.
Same difference as a man trying to follow your planโฆSame difference.
Talk. Talk. Talk. Talk. Ain’t more time to talk.
Walk. Walk. Walk. Walk. Now’s the perfect time to walk.
(iii)
Since I told you, now I have to kill —-THIS SECOND BEER
Wish I could tell if those tears are sincere.
You wanna fight, I want to flyโฆ
Not gonna try.
(outro)
Best believe I made up my mind,
Walk & run or kiss & fight –
Paying our tab on this special night,
Same difference
- “You Got to Call Me Son”
(i)
Your Father abused you,
My Mom knew she would lose you –
Every night you stopped coming homeโฆ
I hope you understand,
You’re a lucky man,
Cuz you got to call me Son.
(chorus)
You got to call me Son,
You could have been anyone.
Not teaching me what’s right,
No giving me the tools to fight.
Not showing me what’s wrong in this world,
No tucking me in at night.
Yeah, that’s right you’re the lucky one,
You got to call me Son.
(ii)
Why didn’t you?โฆ
Ever see my homeruns,
Teach me how to clean a gun?
Never played ‘catch’,
Or took me out for fun.
Teaching me what you already knew,
Isn’t what you wanted to do.
You’re the lucky one,
You got to call me Son.
(chorus)
You got to call me Son,
You could’ve been anyone.
Didn’t teach me what’s right,
Didn’t give me the tools to fight.
Didn’t show me the evil in this world,
Or even how to speak to a girlโฆ.
Had better things to do ,
Then tuck me in at night.
Yeah, damn straight you’re the lucky one,
You got to call me Son.
(iii – outro)
You might have loved me,
But you never hugged me.
There’s a difference between having a kid,
And calling yourself a Dad.
Trust me I needed a better oneโฆ
But you got to call me son.
- “Sadder Day”
(i)
The day before Sunday,
She left me.
Didn’t think she could ever get,
My best me.
Said she didn’t want to try,
No matter how much I criedโฆ
Walking away –
I didn’t know what was left of me.
(chorus)
There’s few SADDER Days than these Saturdays for me.
Other days have taken their toll,
But never knocked me to my knees.
I’ve moped on some Mondays,
Sulked on some Sundays –
(pause)
Cursed me the worst days,
Still few SADDER Days than those Saturdays for me.
(ii)
Lost my best friend,
After midnight on Friday.
21 year end to his life.
All I could do was cry and pray,
During that life-less long last goodbye.
To tell you the truth,
He never looked good in that suitโฆ
(pause)
Can’t forget that day,
No matter how hard I’ve tried.
(chorus)
There’s few SADDER Days than these Saturdays for me.
Other days have taken their toll,
But never knocked me to my knees.
I get bummed some Mondays,
Grumpy some Humpdays –
(pause)
Cursed a bunch of Thursdaysโฆ
Still few SADDER Days than those Satrudays for me.
(iii)
First day of last weekend,
My heart sank to the deep-end.
A simple sailor stopped sailing that day.
He was my Old Man,
For most of my life –
Left behind some kids and his wife.
Really not much I can say.
(pause)
He’ll never again shove off our skiff,
From that Drunken Island marina slipโฆ
Sadness I’ll never forget.
(chorus – outro)
There’s few SADDER Days than these Saturdays for me.
Other days have taken a toll,
But never knocked me to my knees.
I’ve moped on some Mondays,
Sulked on some Sundaysโฆ
(pause)
โฆStill never a SADDER Day than those Saturdays for me.
- “Buzzard” (for Jessica)
I get as high,
As that buzzard flies –
Lookin’ in your pretty eyesโฆ
That knot we tied,
To no surprise –
Makes me the happiest man alive,
And as high as that buzzard flies.
I’m soaring through the sky,
Lying with you tonight.
Can’t see the moonlight,
But you are glowing just right.
You make every day,
Feel like the first day.
Making me need you,
In the worst way.
Girl you knocked me off my feet,
And if this heartbeat won’t repeat –
I lay to rest knowing,
You were the best thing going.
I’m soaring in our bed tonight,
As high as that buzzard flies.
- “Headstone”
(i)
The grave was overgrown,
By the time I made it back home.
Seldom told me he loved me,
But he was sure I must’ve known.
This man in my life,
Caused me heartache – caused me strife.
Tears falling in the graveyard tonight.
(c)
Well I’m crying on the headstone of my Dadโฆ
Through it all,
His rise and fall –
Guess he wasn’t all that bad.
He taught me drink and song,
But never – really – loved – my – poor – Mom, (slow emphasis)
Still I’m crying on the headstone of my Dad.
(ii)
Part of me is sad,
Two more parts really glad –
The Dad I ‘never’ had,
Lays in the ground asleep.
Could have been a better man,
But I rec-kon we all canโฆ (emphasis on syllables)
Find it really hard to understand not being there for me.
If you ask him, it was never his fault you seeโฆ
(c)
Well I’m crying on the headstone of my Dadโฆ
Through it all,
His rise and fall –
Guess he wasn’t all that bad.
He taught me drink and song,
But never – really – loved – my – poor – Mom. (slow, deliberate)
Still I’m crying on the headstone of my Dad.
(iii – outro)
He’d rarely come through,
His words were seldom true .
Lied about the past,
Or – a – caught – fishโฆ (slow deliberate)
A few more beers,
Over a few more years –
Would be my secret wish.
That’s why I’m crying on the headstone of my Dadโฆ
Through it all,
His rise and fall –
Guess it wasn’t all so bad.
Showed me fishing and hard workโฆ.
And at – times – a – real – jerk. (slow emphasis on each word)
Time to stop crying on the headstone of my Dad.
- “Praying Again”
(i)
I took a real long look,
At that Good Book.
And I didn’t like what I read.
Wasn’t how I’d been livin’,
All takin’ no givin’โฆ
Really ought to hang my head (pause)
By now should be dead.
Maybe I’ll start praying again.
Can I change my ways?
Not sure what to do.
Practice what the pages say?
Not sure I want to.
(c)
Think I’ll start praying again.
It might help with all the hate,
And all the sin,
I’ve been livin’ in.
Like learning to ride a bike –
I think I just mightโฆ
Hop back on, and start praying again.
(ii)
I took another long look,
At that Good Book.
And I kind of liked what I read.
Hadn’t prayed since Sunday School,
Where I remember my Preacher said,
“Life will be a road with rocks and stopsโฆ”
“Take a little, give a lot.”
(c)
Think I’ll start praying again.
It might help with all the hate,
And all the sin,
I’ve been living in.
Like learning to ride a bike,
Think I just might –
Hop back on, and start praying again.
(iii – outro)
First I had to let “GO”,
Then add the “D”โฆ
GOD can help with all the woes,
Facing you and me.
Working with our angels,
To help us get by –
Mercy and love,
From the good Lord above,
Helping us live life right.
- “Perfect Timing”
Yes it was perfect timing,
For the Good Lord to find me.
Rambling around,
Wearing a frown,
Leaving big wakes behind me
Couldn’t find a better way,
Never thought of Sunny days;
Word of the Good Book reminds meโฆ
I’m thankful for perfect timing.
Spinning my wheels,
Stuck in the sand.
Really needed someone to lend me a hand.
Well, three showed up,
Who love me the most.
The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
(c)
I thank God for his perfect timing.
He sends signs to remind me,
While I’m sitting here rhyming.
His love goes on forever,
Now I’m putting my life back together.
Each sunrise reminds me,
Of His perfect timing.
- “Sailing”
Leeward was always a good friend of mine.
Waves weren’t bad,
Never crossed the line.
Time passed.
We ventured to the windward side.
And couldn’t predict the tide,
The waves were too high.
- “Bible”
Buzzin’ through the Bible.
Was looking for revival.
Better days with sunrays –
Easier times,
Not Survival.
Gonna quote this story book to you.
Even though I live –
Like the Devil wants me to.
- “Wake Up Call”
(i)
Alarm clock rang,
Snooze bar banged.
Not sure what this day will bring.
Stuck in my head her voice saying,
“Brandon do you have a plan?”
I said, “I can’t stand the man I amโฆ”
(c)
Baby doll,
Thanks for the wake up call.
(Sure this is really hard on you.)
I’m sure you mean well,
But you’re being mean as hellโฆ
I’ll figure out what’s best for me to do.
(ii)
Things ain’t gone my way –
Bad excuse some might say.
But in many ways it’s trueโฆ
Don’t want to hear you whine,
‘Bout how I’m spending my time –
Should find some work by June.
(c)
Baby doll,
Thanks for the wake-up call.
(Sure this is really hard on you.)
I know you mean well,
But you’re being mean as hell –
I’ll figure out what’s best to do.
(outro)
I’ll put my best to the test,
And I’ll hope to stumble on success.
Love, Brandon.
- “Captain”
(i)
Son of a salesman.
Youngest of three kids.
Nothing he did,
Was ever quite rightโฆ
‘Dodged’ it the best he could,
Until Uncle Sam said he should –
Be a man and put up a fight.
(c)
Now he’s a Captain with no wind for his sail.
And he never learned to navigate that well.
Calm days and big swells,
Bunch of lies and stories he’d tellโฆ
His boat’s afloat,
But with no wind for his sail.
(ii)
El Capitan,
I know your journey has been rough.
Hey Captain,
With your old age you’re not so tough.
The breeze won’t come for you to sail again,
Your life here on Earth is gone with the wind
(c)
Now he’s a Captain with no wind for his sail,
And he never learned to navigate too well.
Calm days and big swells,
Lots of lies and stories he’d tellโฆ
His boat’s afloat,
But there’s no more wind for his sail.
(iii)
Hey Captainโฆ.Hey Captain,
When you lay down to rest,
Know in your heart,
You always did your best.
Have a smoke,
Have a drink,
Before that boat you’re on starts to sink.

- “Star-Spangled Banter”
(i)
Good outweighs bad in the USA.
If you don’t like it,
You don’t have to stayโฆ
Why are you here anyway?
Free men stand,
On this sacred land.
Old Glory does wave,
In this home of the Braveโฆ
Star-Spangled Banter every day.
(c)
Gonna send some Star-Spangled Banter out your way.
Nowhere you’ll find a better place.
Rights to love,
Rights to vote,
(not to mention this gun I tote)โฆ
No other place I’d rather stay,
God Blessed the USA –
I’m speaking my Star-Spangled Banter every day.
(ii)
Jose, can’t you see?
That eagle soaring high.
I can tell you’re amazed by Her Grace,
By the envy in your eyes.
In the land of milk and honey,
No one will ever stop meโฆ.
From spreading this Star-Spangled Banter every day.
(c)
Sending this Star-Spangled Banter out your way.
There is no better place.
Rights for speech,
Rights for peace,
(too good to be true if you ask me)โฆ
No other place I’d rather stay,
God blessed the USA –
Stickin’ this Star-Spangled Banter in your face.
(iii – outro)
The whole world sees,
God’s looking over you and me.
In this land of the free,
No place I’d rather be.
Red, White, and Blue-
Flying over you.
God Blessed the USA,
Triumphantly we shall remain.
Happy to spit this Star-Spangled Banter in your face.
- “When I Leave Here”
Doc doesn’t know he’s killing me,
Just a damn quack far as I can see –
Saying he has to pull 2 back teeth!
“Just hurry up” is what I said,
“Do what you have to do” โฆ.(pause)
So I can go on and clear my head.
(c)
Gonna drink some ice cold beer,
When I leave here.
Man this day sure stinks,
Think I’ll just go drink. (pause)
Not – the – answer – forever, (slow)
But the best for me right now –
Don’t wanna be around here anyhow.
(ii)
Well, I went to my lady,
Mouth real sore.
“Man up!” she said,
“You’re acting like you’re 4!”
Not the real man I loved before –
“Get on out the door!”
The blacktop road hit my boots,
All because of that rotten tooth –
And now I ain’t got my woman anymore!โฆ
(c)
Gonna drink some ice cold beer,
As I leave here.
Man this day sure stinks,
Think I’ll just go drink. (pause)
Not – the – answer – forever, (slow)
But the best for me right now –
She didn’t want me around her anyhow.
(iii)
Tail tucked in and walking slow,
Passed by a hooker,
Then a Preacher SOโฆ
I figured she and I would play, (pause)
Then after sit down with him and pray.
Didn’t know what else to do.
She got off her knees,
I dropped down on mine,
After thanking her for her time.
Praying never felt so good,
Until lightning struck that alter wood.
Burned down that chapel in the blink of an eyeโฆ
(c)
Gonna drink some ice cold beer,
As I run from here.
Man this day sure stinks,
And I surely need a drink. (pause)
Not – the – answer – forever, (slow)
But the best for me right now –
The law is surely looking for me right now.
(iv)
That chapel fire burned real strong,
And I wasn’t far down the road I was on.
When I looked back,
I could see everyone got out okay.
No one hurt because of me,
Looking ahead all I could see,
Were the gates of Hell on down the way.
I sat down on the road right there,
Didn’t walk anymore –
Truly bad days like this are rare,
No tellin’ what the Devil has in store.
He walked right up to me,
Said, “Cowboy, it’s time to go.”
“You should’ve done better brushing your teeth.”
“Now I get your soul.”
(c – outro)
Don’t think there’s any ice cold beer,
Where I’m going from here.
Man, this day sure stinks,
Hope the Devil will be serving drinksโฆ (pause)
Sitting in the fire for eternity,
Not just a couple weeksโฆ.
Wish I would have flossed and brushed my teeth.
- “Way Left”
(i)
Moved from the Sunshine State,
To the Golden State,
At 43 years old.
Didn’t know what to expect,
Other than what I was told.
Sure was pretty flying in,
But looks can deceive.
I touched down,
Started looking around,
At things I couldn’t believeโฆ
(c)
I moved way left of the right side,
Of this country I hold dear. (up tempo)
Never thought in a million years,
That I’d be living here.
My Dolphins game is at 10am,
Don’t you think that’s weird?!
I moved way left of the right side,
Of this country I hold dear.
(ii)
A friend said, “I should warn ya, “
“Don’t move to Californiaโฆ”
‘For the people’ is what they claim,
But I don’t feel that hereโฆ
Can’t afford the taxes,
Can’t afford the beer.
(c)
I moved way left of the right side,
Of this country I hold dear.
Never thought in a million years,
That I’d be living hereโฆ
Freeways Maze,
And it never rains –
Don’t you think that’s weird?!
I moved way left of the right side,
Of this country I hold dear.
(iii)
Well, it’s almost been a year,
Since I had to move out here.
Haven’t even been back East one time.
Trying to find my way, (slow down)
Getting better each passing dayโฆ
Kids and the wife, (slow)
Are living their best life.
And the people aren’t as wrong,
As I think I’m ‘right’.
(c – outro)
I moved way left of the right side,
Of this country I hold dear.
Never thought in a million years,
That I’d be living hereโฆ
Paying for bags at the grocery store, (slow down)
Can’t afford gas to go fishin’ no more –
Still some bad things to be clear,
But getting used to being left of the right side,
Of this USA I hold dear.
- “Many Hats” (for Donna)
(i)
She never got mad,
At all the hats she had –
Wearing them at different times,
On different days.
If you asked her for the truth,
She’d smile back at you,
And say she wouldn’t have it –
Any other wayโฆ
(c)
She was my doctor,
My teacher,
My Father and my Preacher.
My biggest fan,
And the counselor who always cared.
She’d scold me,
And hold me –
Life lessons she showed me.
Amazing to meโฆ (pause)
The many hats Mom had to wear.
(ii)
She didn’t seem to care,
About all the hats she had to wear__
Just to be my Mother.
She’d put ’em on every day,
With a smile on her pretty face –
Getting the ‘Mom Job’ done like no other.
Man, I sure do love her.
(c)
She was my Doctor,
My Teacher,
My Father and my Preacher.
My biggest fan,
And the counselor who always cared.
She’d scold me,
And hold me.
Life lessons she showed me.
Amazing to meโฆ (pause)
The many hats Mom had to wear.
- “From One to Eleven” (for Jessica)
Year one was real fun,
All new for us two.
Year two came our Lily,
A beauty just like you.
Year three we welcomed Mila,
With all her fire & grace.
Year four with a family of 4,
What a crazy place!
Year five trying to survive,
And learning as we go.
Year six full of bliss,
Watching our daughters grow.
Year seven had its ups and downs,
Big losses, stress, and pain.
Year eight you and I met our Son,
Our lives would never be the same.
Year nine good times,
Beach dream house where we would live forever.
Little did we know the challenges,
We would face together.
Year ten Covid brought us closer,
And we had to move out West.
Year eleven sure wasn’t Heaven,
But we’ve yet to see our best.
I’d do it all over again, from One to Eleven.
- “Fall”
Rough waters and calm,
Short time running long –
Gonna make you fall in love with me.
Winters of cold,
Tempers bold –
Gonna make you fall in love with me.
Warm death bed,
Everything’s been said –
You finally fell in love with me.
- “Sail Away”
I had a premonition,
There’d be no more fishin’
With the man who taught me to sail.
Calm seas Father,
Gonna tell my daughters
Some of the stories you liked to tell.
The drunken sailor is my dear old Dad,
He never really treated me bad —
But he would sail away,
I’d maybe see him for a Holiday.
He would always sail away,
And never stay.
The now sober skipper stopped sailing today,
Took him dying to put that brown bottle away.
- “Give and Take”
Life’s about give and take.
You give it some hell,
Then it’s taken away.
Such a give and take,
This life we makeโฆ
Work your ass off, give it all you got;
End up a broke man,
Never taking your shot.
It’s a give and take,
With this love we makeโฆ
I give you my love,
So my name you will take.
Give me your hand,
And I’ll take your breath awayโฆ
Give me a sign,
And I’ll take my time –
Loving you.
- “Holding On”
(i)
It’s high time for a sun tan,
Under this old wedding band.
She’s got a brand new plan,
To find a better manโฆ
I cried and tried all damn night,
My girl still said goodbye.
Not sure what to do,
Except maybe letting go too___(pause)
Wish I could; surely know I should –
But I still lover her soโฆ
She’s holding on to letting go.
(c)
She’s holding on to letting go,
Even thoughโฆ(pause)
I chased her,
Can’t replace her,
Duplicate her or erase her.
All that hate on our final date,
She really put on a show –
She loved me more than I’ll ever know,
Holding on to letting go.
(ii)
My girl won’t fight with me anymore.
Bags are packed and by the door.
Different than beforeโฆ
Don’t know what’s up her sleeve,
Is she really gonna leave?
Soon enough I’ll know,
She’s holding on to letting go.
(chorus insert here)
(iii)
“I hope – I never – see you again,”
Were the last words that she said.
Mean as a Copperhead,
She was done with meโฆ
This love – such a catastrophe
(bridge)
It’s my own damn fault,
Didn’t walk the walk.
Hearing her hate,
On our final date –
It’s easy to knowโฆ
She’s holding on to letting go.
(c)
She’s holding on to letting go,
Even thoughโฆ(pause)
I chased her,
Can’t replace her.
Duplicate her, or erase her.
All that hate on our final date,
She really put on a show.
She loved me more than I’ll ever know,
Holding on to letting go.
- “Fun”
The day’s more fun,
With this bottle of rum.
In the Summer sun,
With my only one.
You understand,
Take my hand, and walk in the sand.
You love my jokes,
Even though I’m broke.
We make a plan.
Walk, crawl, run, or jump –
Getting to you any way I can.
- “Todd”
Looking back at –
Days in the past.
Green gameday grass,
And cutting class.
Infield homerun,
After the Anthem sung.
You were a pitcher,
Then we learned to chug pitchers.
Two-for-onesโฆ
We had lots of fun.
Learned a lot,
In that after school parking lot.
School books and right hooks.
Chasing skirts,
In our Hillfiger shirts.
Ran together,
You and me in college.
With our beer goggles on,
We were searching for knowledgeโฆ
Little did we know.
Hope you’re taking care up there.
46. "Stand Tall" I know this tree in the woods. It's roots are pretty good. The wind blows hard, But she stands her ground. Nothing can knock her down. Wishin' these feet could be planted strong. Too much running and stumbling along. This pain I feel is like an autumn wind, Shedding leaves to a barren limb. Puddles of tears, Not sure enough to begin again. I cut down that tree in the woods, And burned it to keep me warm. I'll stand tall and strong tomorrow. ___________ 47. "Know It All" (intro) Hindsight's 20/20, Regrets there are many. 90 minutes here,
Cuz I know not what to do...
Burnin' up this pew,
Every Sunday with you.

68. "Two Below"

Two below in Tupelo.
The sun won't shine,
The crops won't grow.

That when I got home -
Bank clock would show,
Two below in Tupelo.

Downtown.
West Jefferson Street,
Where we like to meet,
At the FPC.

I hope the fish keep biting for you.

No one wants to win.
Once it's over,
You can't race again.
I'm a Believer,
But I don't believe her.
When she says I'm goin' straight to hell.
Didn't think she knew me that well.
What's waiting at the finish line?
Is Saint Peter there with smoke and wine?
Or is the Devil greeting me,
Ready to show me a helluva time...
And take me to the other side,
Where it's hot at night.
Gonna stop running fast,
To that finish line.
Gonna take it slow,
And start enjoying what little time -
I have on this Earth.
I surely won't be the first,
To stop running for that finish line.

Not love, but a beautiful sight.

My special little tree,
Now up to my belt.
Makes me so proud,
I'm under his spell.
With his Momma's eyes,
My stories he will tell.
Hope he lives life well,
My strong little tree.
Who will he be?
How tall will he grow?
I pray he weathers the storms,
And stays warm when it snows.
His roots will spread strong,
Not a little tree for long.

Are for all I didn't do.
Sitting next to you three,
Hard to believe you called me up.
I needed a little more time,
Just a little more luck.
______________
79. "Beer Bent"
(i)
Six pack down,
Heading into town.
If Jessica's found,
Gonna spin her around.
Can't stop looking her up and down...
Always wearing her night time gown.
There you go!
She's putting on a show...
And I'm gonna sit in her front row.
(c)
Cuz
I'm beer bent and bound for broads.
No particular reason,
It's just because.
I'm alive, it's Friday night - not breaking any laws...
When you're beer bent, out looking for broads.
(ii)
Natasha loves to Cha Cha,
And I don't dance.
But she's sure looking fine,
In those tight yoga pants.
Maybe she'll give me a try,
She's just my type...
To keep me spinning 'til the morning light - yeah!
(c)
Beer bent and bound for broads,
No particular reason, just beCAUSE.
Chasin' skirts just being a flirt,
Not breaking any laws.
When you're beer bent, out looking for broads.
(iii)
Julie's unruly,
In her red lipstick.
Chelsea and Lisa do all the tricks.
Too many options make it tough on me..(pause)
All of them can drop me to my knees.
Sarah and Rose ask me to go with them -
Aw hell, here we go again!
(c-outro)
Beer bent, and I found my girls.
Both of them are gonna give me whirl.
Tonight might kill me, with probable cause...
I was beer bent and bound for broads.

80. "Four Bald Tires"
(i)
I'm rotting my brain,
With this sad country twang.
All that rangin' and bangin' in my head.
Driving to see you,
Cuz I don't believe you,
And all the hurtful things you said.
Gonna take driving all night,
Just to look you in the eyes...
(c)
These...
Four bald tires and my broken heart,
Took me to this Wal-Mart.
Thought it'd be a real good place to start. (pause)
To buy a box of wine,
Any card, and flowers I can find.
All good moves to try and keep you mine...
Coming to say sorry and do my part,
On four bald tires and a broken heart.
(ii)
Leaving the store,
It started snowing some more.
Didn't think I'd make it.
Slipping and sliding,
Sad song singing while driving...
Flowers tipped over on the floorboard.
If this icy road doesn't kill me,
Gonna get down on my knees,
And beg you to love me some more.
(c)
These four bald tires and my broken heart,
Taking me to her to do my part.
Hope our love comes alive when I apologize,
She may not even be around.
Grown man crying - no more lying,
Almost to her house...
Looking for a brand new start,
On four bald tires, and my broken heart.
(outro)
Against all odds,
I made it to her drive.
Tired and cold, I saw her inside,
With another man just my luck,
I never even got out of the truck.
____________
81. "All This Blue"
It's just some words I wrote for you.
To help you get through,
All this blue,
That's killing you.
Not much else I could do,
But write a couple lines.
Maybe I can ease your troubled mind,
In time.
With these lines I wrote for you.
A couple words from the heart,
Is where I'll start.
Shot in the dark,
To help your black skies part.
To help get you through,
All this blue,
That's killing you.
________________
82. "Double Bird"
(i)
Where in the Hell's my truck?
Used to be sittin' there.
In your drive night after night,
When our love was still in the air.
Can't eat or drink or sleep,
Thinking 'bout that jacked up Willys Jeep -
Where I used to park.
Damn you for my broken heart.
(c)
She just shot me that double bird,
She'd found new fun.
I know it sounds absurd,
Man that girl was done.
She raised 'em high up in the sky,
As a tear ran from my eye.
She was heard, without saying a word,
Shooting me that double bird.
(ii)
I'd go to the store,
Every time she told me to.
Bought her flowers and more,
Because I wanted to.
I took long walks and held her hand,
Even if I didn't quite understand...(pause)
Now going straight to hell,
That's what she told me to do.
(c)
She just shot me that double bird,
She'd found new fun.
I know it sounds absurd,
Man that girl was done.
She raised 'em high up in the sky,
As a tear ran from my eye.
She was heard, without saying a word,
Shooting me that double bird.
(outro)
Can't believe what I just saw,
Her hopping out of his Jeep,
Mini skirt and all...
Didn't think she saw me standing by, but -
One-at-a-time she raised them in the sky...
And shot me that double bird,
shot me that double bird.
_______________
83. "Zero Chance"
(i)
Can't play or sing,
But I know one thing.
I'm taking her home tonight.
I'll just sit back, and let her come around.
With that lonesome in her eyes.
She told me her name,
We both were thinking the same.
Favorite song played to our surprise.
She said, "Boy watch me dance, cuz you stand a chance..."
"To get just what you like."
(c)
Don't know if she's the one,
But I'm thinking she'll fit just right.
Tight in my arms,
Right here tonight.
Zero chance this is love,
But for the two of us it might,
Be good enough...
All this neckin' in the neon light. (pause)
Zero chance this is love.
(ii)
Trying to catch my breath,
Watching her body move.
Thoughts were racing,
Bout what we should and shouldn't do.
By morning's light,
We were tangled up tight,
Back at my place.
It was the right time, with no words to say.
Could see it all over her face.
(c)
Don't know if she's the one,
But I'm thinking she'll fit just right.
Tight in my arms,
Right here tonight.
Zero chance this is love,
But for the two of us it might,
Be good enough...
Pillow talking 'til morning light. (pause)
Zero chance this is love.
(outro)
Quite the crazy time,
Waffle House exit just around noon.
Shoulda been at work by 9,
Told the bossman I'd be there soon.
Says she wants to see me again.
I asked, "Why?"
And she said, "Because...
There's a zero chance this is love."
_____________
84. "Your Loss"
(i)
Not saying there's another man,
Who could take your place.
My boy has your nose,
And I have your face.
Now that I'm a Dad, I just can't see -
How you didn't wanna be with me.
Shame on you,
Your loss was me.
(c)
Your loss was me in the back yard,
Tossing that ball around.
Your loss was me at bedtime,
Reading stories and putting me down.
Not having me as a son to you,
Is what YOU chose to do...
My young arms were open,
But yours were distant.
You could've come close,
But you didn't.
(ii)
How could you not want to,
Tuck me in to sleep?
How could you not want to,
Throw that ball with me?
These days of our lives just fly by,
Until we're sitting there in the dark.
How could you not want to,
Be there for me from the start?
(c)
Again, your loss was me in the front yard,
Tossing that ball around.
Your loss was me at bedtime,
Reading stories and putting me down.
Not having me as a son to you,
Is what YOU chose to do...
My small arms were open,
But yours were distant...
You could've come close,
But you didn't.
(iii-outro)
You know you didn't have to,
Leave me without a Dad at home.
You know you didn't have to,
Not know me 'til I was grown.
We all make our beds,
And that's where we'll lay...
You surely didn't have to,
Treat me this kind of way.
____________
85. "Don't Be Afraid"
(i)
Thoughts of what I didn't do,
Race through my head.
I won't know what to do,
With my new Heaven view...
Don't think I'm ready for dead.
A person with wings appeared and said,
"Come with me son."
"We all have a time,
And your time has come."
(c)
(He said)
Don't be afraid,
I'll hold your hand.
Mysteries before long you'll understand.
I know your fear after all your years,
Living as a mortal man...
But don't be afraid,
I'll hold your hand.
(ii)
My family all around,
No one's making a sound.
Who do they really see,
With my last breaths in and out?
I can barely hear their whimpers, but I can feel their sorrow.
Hard to believe there's no more tomorrow.
(c)
Don't be afraid,
You'll soon understand.
That's what the Angel said,
As he held my hand.
You're gonna love it up there,
Because you earned it down here.
Living right every day,
Fearing God all your years.
Don't be afraid and dry your tears.
(iii)
I hope I left my mark,
In my children's hearts.
Man I'm scared..(pause)
Not prepared to die,
Then again, no one is at 55.
He said, "You honored the ones you loved the most."
"All your angels are raising a toast."
"When you see the light,
Squeeze my hand tight..."
"I'll walk you through those gates,
To your final resting place."
(outro)
Don't be afraid,
I'm letting go of your hand.
My-ster-y no more,
Now you understand.
What happens to good men when they die...
A whole lot better than to the other side.
_____________
86. "Baker's Dozen"
(i)
One more than twelve.
Many more if we keep doing it well.
Only time will tell,
How our love story will go.
Feels like we married,
Just a couple weeks ago.
(c)
We put our lovin' in the oven,
And cooked up this Baker's Dozen.
Best 13 years,
I ever had in my life.
Some were salty,
Some were sweet,
And all I'd damn sure repeat.
You're the only one,
I ever wanna call my wife.
(ii)
Started cooking some love muffins,
One at a time.
You gave me your heart,
I gave you mine.
You're still here,
Loving me after 13 years...
Gotta say I'm one lucky guy,
Each and every year,
With you by my side.
(c)
Put our lovin' in the oven,
And cooked up this Baker's Dozen.
Best 13 years,
I ever had in my life.
Some were salty,
Some were sweet,
And all I'd damn sure repeat.
You're the only one,
I ever wanna call my wife.
(outro)
Honey Bun,
Why don't you come,
Sit on over here?!
You're still the one,
I'm truly stunned ,
You're still with me after all these years ;)
_______________
87. "Stand Tall"
I know this tree in the woods.
It's roots are pretty good.
The wind blows hard,
But she stands her ground.
Nothing can knock her down.
Wishing these feet could be planted strong.
Too much running and stumbling along.
This pain I feel is like an autumn wind,
Shedding leaves showing a barren limb.
Puddles of tears,
Not sure enough to begin again.
I cut down that tree in the woods,
And burned it to keep me warm.
I'll stand tall and strong tomorrow,
Today I'm beaten down with sorrow.
________________
88. "Time"
Glorious time of day,
When the sun goes away.
Bright orange turns to gray,
Goodbye is what we say.
Sun, see you the next day.
Next day.
Glorious look on your face,
When the tears go away.
I'll help your "happy" stay.
Happy to see you today,
So happy today.
Glorious love we made.
I will love you every day.
For this I pray.
____________
89. "Reasons"
(i)
There's no wine strong enough to bring my love,
Back in your burning bed.
No more trips to take,
Or love to make,
You left our love for dead.
You're making it with other girls,
Now I feel so small.
When I used to be your whole world,
Every winter, spring, summer, and fall.
(c)
The reasons why,
I'm saying goodbye,
All make sense to me.
Better off dead,
Than in your bed.
What's our love come to be?
The only joy you've given me,
Is when you walked on out the door.
I finally realize,
Looking into your lying eyes,
The reasons why,
I have to say goodbye.
(ii)
No more gifts to give you,
I've given my everything.
No more lies to tell you,
You told enough for both of us I think.
You won't care, if you never stare,
Into my blue brown eyes again.
Just some of the reasons why,
I'm saying goodbye,
So sick of the Hell it's been...
(c)
The reasons why,
I'm saying goodbye,
All make sense to me.
Better off dead,
Than in your bed,
What's our love come to be?
The only joy lately for me,
Was watching you walk out the door.
Yes I finally see the light,
In your lying eyes so bright.
The reasons why -
I'm saying goodbye.
(b)
No more fires are burning for you,
Along my trail of tears.
I should get a medal too!
For trying to love you all these years.
You never once apologized,
For all the times you made me cry...
Giving me so many resons why.
___________
90. "Jiffy Store"
(i)
Took a summer job at a corner store,
Didn't really know,
Never been in there before.
I needed the money,
And close to the house enough.
Now that I've been there,
I won't go anywhere,
To shop for all my stuff.
(c)
Hey, hey, what do you say?!
No better way to shop in the USA,
Than at the jiffy store.
Find all you're lookin' for and more.
If you need a beer,
Come in here.
Cooler full of singles short and tall.
If you need some smokes,
Carton prices are no joke,
And somehow they have em all!
Don't forget your batteries (slow)..
And to fill your tank before you leave.
At the jiffy store,
Almost everything inside those doors.
(ii)
Diapers, scratch-offs, and beer.
They have everything up in here.
You can buy phone chargers (up and hold),
And a can of snuff.
Nudy mags and the New York Times,
If you read that stuff.
Play the gaming machine, it's lots of fun.
Bahama Mama's are two-for-one,
Today, at the jiffy store.
(c)
Hey, hey what do you say?!
No better way to shop in the USA,
Than at the jiffy store.
Find all you're lookin' for and more (pause).
If you need a beer,
Come in here.
Cooler's full of singles short and tall.

Somehow they have 'em all.
Don't forget your batteries (slow)
And to fill your tank before you leave...
At the jiffy store,
Almost everything inside those doors.
(outro)
Junior Mart, Kwik King or Circle K
No better way to shop in the USA
Than at a jiffy store.
___________
91. "Jessica's Flight"
Baby I know you're scared,
You're gonna be okay.
Planes fly around,
Every second of every day.
Safer than the road they say.
I'm here next to you.
Before you know it,
You'll be at altitude.
Try not to think about it,
Get your music right,
And close your eyes.
Take a deep breath,
You're safer than you think.
If that Zanny ain't workin',
Push that button,
And order you up a drink.
I'm holding your hand,
It's a real short flight.
A little word muddle and spotify,
You're gonna be alright.
No more fright,
No more fright.
______________
92. "Grace"
(i)
Guess I should praise Him,
(For) Lifting me off this floor.
Guess I should believe Him,
(He) Says no one ever loved me more.
I've never been good,
At doing what I should -
Maybe this time I could try...
To walk through life,
With his good word in my stride.
(c)
Because...
You're never alone,
When you're with Him.
No matter where you roam,
No matter how you sin.
Even when your days are scary and strange,
There's always room for change.
Bring Him into your life.
You'll have sunnier days,
And brighter moonlit nights.
(ii)
His grace was more than amazing.
It didn't have to be.
I wasn't even upright or praying.
Should've forgotten about me.
Thinking of what I haven't done,
And all the good I should have bred.
Can't believe,
He didn't leave me for dead.
(c)
You're never alone,
When you're with Him.
No matter where you roam,
No matter how you sin.
Even when your days are scary and strange,
It's never too late to change. (pause)
Bring Him into your life.
You'll have sunnier days,
And brighter moonlit nights.
(outro)
It's been a few years since I opened my eyes;
And let Him guide me from my darkest place.
To tell you the truth He can help you too,
He never runs out of grace.
____________
93. "Time"
(i)
Time never comes back.
It's just tic-toc walking away.
Wish I could take those words back,
Every minute, every single day.
With every single breath,
And every sunset,
I keep wishing you were coming home.
Only have so much time to spend,
Now mine is being spent alone.
(c)
Time (hold) -
Sees all love come and go.
A lot of it dies, some of it grows.
Be good to who you love and know,
Not telling where it might go. (pause)
If you love that girl,
You should squeeze her tight,
The years fly by.
At every chance tell her you love her.
If you think you can't,
You should surely try.
We only get one ride,
Better with her by your side.
(ii)
No stopping that tic-toc (pause).
That second hand you will never pause,
Don't play the games I played,
With her heart and that old clock.
Dig deeper to understand,
Show her you want her,
And hold her hand.
There's not always a second chance...
(bridge)
...cuz if you wait too long,
To show her your love,
She'll be gone.
Heading down a better road,
With a better man who already knows,
How to take his time,
Loving her right,
She's with him tonight.
Don't waste your time.
(c)
Time (hold) -

94. “Another Day”
I've been crying a lot,
And drinking more beer than I can say.
My guitar's in hock.
And there's a song I wanna play.
Maybe another day.
I think if I pray,
The sun will shine down my way.
And I'll lift up my chin,
To try and start living again.
With all the sins.
How've you been?
That's how I've been.
Moving slow,
In need of a tow,
And praying and wonderin'.

95. "Pleather Seats"
(i)
Can't remember the last time I drove this truck,
With my flip-flops on.
Sunburn sticking to the pleather seats,
With no A/C,
As you sang every country song.
Our summers were hot,
The winters were too.
Over and over I'd fall for you.
Wish I could push rewind,
To our younger life.
(c)
Better times___(hold)
In a smaller world.
I was a better man.
You were an innocent girl.
Our only plans were holding hands,
And loving one tic at a time.
At a slower pace,
With a lot of Grace,
And good friends by our side.
(ii)
Rope swing into the river,
Icy spring water made us shiver.
After a few beers down,
We draped our clothes over a cypress knee.
We didn't think we were sinning ,
Young care-free country livin' if you ask me.
The days were long,
We blinked and they were gone.
You and I went our separate ways.
What I would give,
If I could re-live,
Just a few of those special days.
(c)
Better times___(hold)
In a smaller world.
I was a better man.
You were an innocent girl.
Our only plans were holding hands,
And living one tic at a time.
At a slower pace,
With a lot of Grace,
And good friends by our side.
(iii)
Life wasn't full of problems,
Water skiing out on the lake.
(But) If we had them we tried to solve them,
And learn from our mistakes.
We thought we'd all be friends,
Until the very end.
Years passed and it wasn't true.
Thought you'd always be my girlfriend
Wasn't something we decided to do.
It warms my heart,
Thinking back parked in the dark,
On those pleather seats with you.
(c)
Better times___(hold)

Wish I could re-live that part of my life.

96. "Wash It Off"
(i)
Just who I am.
Some say I'm a simple man.
Flip phone in my right hand.
Put extra money in a coffee can.
Bring my billfold to the offer plate,
Still get on my knees to pray.
Truth be told,
I wouldn't have it another way.
(c) - up tempo -
You can't wash it off,
Clean me up,
Or get me to stop.
Traditional ways,
Run through my veins,
Got some bad habits I won't drop.
Love me for me,
I'll love you for you.
We'll see where this ride goes.
The more you learn,
The more you know.
It bothers you and it shows.
(ii)
Still use a key to start my truck,
And you can't pug it in.
And I have to lock my hubs,
Before I get stuck,
When I'm muddin' with my friends.
I drive off the paved road,
And take the long way home,
To enjoy the view.
Beer in the console,
I still get stoned,
More than most do.
(c)
You can't wash it off,
Clean me up,
Or get me to stop.
Traditional ways,
Run through my veins,
Got some bad habits I won't drop.
Love me for me,
I'll love you for you.
We'll see where this ride goes.
The more you learn,
The more you know.
It bothers you and it shows.
(bridge)
You can try to take my guns,
But I wear colors that just won't run.
You can try to teach or show me better ways...
Maybe another day,
'Cuz today I'm gonna say:
(c)
You can't wash it off,
Clean me up,
Or get me to stop.
Traditional ways,
Run through my veins,
Got some bad habits I won't drop.
Love me for me,
I'll love you for you.
We'll see where this ride goes.
The more you learn,
The more you know.
It bothers you and it shows.

97. "Happy Father's Day" (for Sergio)
On this eve of Father's Day,
I'd just like to say:
I've been holding on tight,
To the many ropes you've thrown my way.
You don't have to,
But you did.
You're always there for me,
Like I am your kid.
I never had a Dad that wanted to be a Dad.
And you don't have to be,
The man you are to me,
But you are and I'm surely glad.
Thanks for everything.
For all the acts you don't have to do.
Down-right amazing,
The life lessons I'm learning from you.
I hold my head up high,
And stick my chest out wide,
Walking next to you.
Grateful for your leadership,
And knowing you love me too.
I hope your Father's Day is filled with something amazing!
Love,
Brandon

Just a palm frond shack built up on the edge of the lake.
Pull your boat right in,
Pay no mind to the snakes.
Bar stools to swivel on,
Gotta bring your chest waders.
No bird dogs out here,
Too many alligators.
(c)
In a duck blind state of mind,
Go grab your gun and I'll grab mine.
In a duck blind state of mind.
Gonna have us a time.
We're in a duck blind state of mind,
Two boxes of shells should do just fine.
In our duck blind state of mind,
Dropping ducks out of the sky.
(ii)
Kind of hard to find,
Two hours before sunrise.
Safe to say you won't make it on time,
If you tied one on last night.
Big enough to hunt four,
But like I've told you before...
Better with only you and Green Coleman,
With beer'd down ice on the floor.
(bridge) -slow-
Littered with casings and cigarette butts.
One of these days,
We should clean her up...
It just might impress the ducks.
(c)
In our duck blind state of mind,
You pluck your ducks and I'll pluck mine.
In a duck blind state of mind,
Busting them as they fly by.
In this duck blind state of mind,
Barrels are hot and we're feeling fine.
Loving this duck blind state of mind,
Each and every time.

99. "Duckin' Basshole"
(i)
For all you posers out there,
Who can't knock a duck out of the air...
Duck you.
And all of you fishing "wannabe's",
Who keep casting in the trees,
Know your role.
You're a basshole!
(c)
Duckin', duckin', duckin' - basshole
Duckin', duckin', duckin' - basshole
Duckin', duckin', duckin' - basshole
Don't ask him, he'll just put on a show.
He's a duckin' basshole.
If you need to know,
Just where to go -
Don't ask him, cuz he won't know.
He's a duckin' basshole.
(ii)
Just a duckin' basshole,
Wanderin' through the woods.
He's a duckin' basshole,
Damn sure he's no good...
At busting ducks,
Or turning bass.
Even though all his gear is first class.
Duckin' basshole.
You can kiss my bass.
We all have a friend,
Who could never make the rod bend.
We all know a guy,
Who never knocks 'em out of the sky.
All store-bought,
And all for show...
Just a duckin' basshole.
(c)
Duckin, Duckin, Duckin, Basshole
Duckin, Duckin, Duckin, Basshole
(let me hear you say it!)
Duckin, Duckin, Duckin, Basshole

Walking barefoot into the jiffy store,
Scratch my ticket,
Then I hit the floor...
A free ticket! I can play some more.
After tomorrow's draw,
I'll be poor no more.
(c)
Gonna hit me that lottery.
Mega money, Powerball, or even Cash 3.
Better times coming for you and me,
Gonna hit me that lottery.
Gonna hit me that lottery.
Big yacht cruisin' at a very slow speed.
Quick-pickin' a brand new life for me...
Twirlin' my girl in the south of France.
Sun bathing on the bow without no pants.
All my dreams within reach,
When I hit me that lottery.
(ii)
Now I don't know what to do...
Still can't believe I won all this loot.
Can't tell anyone but you,
In case it's too good to be true.
My phone'll be blowing up,
When people see my brand new pickup truck...
It's surely gonna get me stuck -
Paying everybody's bills.
(c)
Well, I hit me that lottery.
Powerball jackpot, that was me.
Been playing since '93 -
Finally hit me that lottery.
I hit me that lottery.
Now we're big yacht cruisin' at a really slow speed.
Quick-picked a brand new life for me.
Me and my girl in the south of France,
Sun bathing on the bow without no pants.
All our dreams within reach.
And I still can't believe...
I hit me that lottery.

101. "Far From Forever"
(i)
Loaded her bags,
Hitched my boat,
And barked her tires on down the road.
If I wasn't high,
Ida said goodbye,
And maybe begged her not to go.
But I was,
And there was no more love,
Or dishes left to throw.
(c)
Her feelings fell far from 'forever' for me.
Guess I wasn't the man,
She saw in her dreams.
Now she's taking a stand,
Up to this rambling man,
Still hard for me to believe...
But anyone can see -
Her feelings fell far from 'forever' for me.
(ii)
She couldn't keep me home,
No matter what she did, or how hard she tried.
I needed to roam and always stay stoned,
It made her cry.
Her buckets of tears,
Caused by my buckets of beers...
We'll never admit the other was right.
(bridge)
Different sounds now around where I stay.
Without her screaming in my face,
And too many memories I can't erase...
Guess I have to sell this place.
(c)
She fell far from forever for me.
I wasn't the man she needed me to be.
Now she's taking a stand,
Up to this rambling man.
Still hard for me to believe...
Everyone can see,
Her falling far from forever for me.

102. "Bang, Bang"
(i)
You can't hear the songs,
When the sparrows fly away.
Doesn't take too long,
To not remember what they say.
Tried and true,
The sun shines through,
Even when you can't see her rays.
Keeping you warm and alive,
Through another hard day.
(c)
Bang!, Bang! goes the beat of my heart,
Every time I think of me back when.
Innocent and raised up smart,
With a sail full of wind.
My course changed,
I haven't been the same,
Now I'm out here fighting against the tide.
With a little Grace, I ask in God's name,
To get me to the other side.
(ii)
Waves keep crashing down.
Feeling so salty from the sea.
I can't feel good right now,
In this storm that's come to me.
Please sir, will you lift these clouds?
I'm dying here living in the dark.
Can you help me out?
Lord, I promise I'll do my part.
(c)
Bang! Bang! goes the beat of my heart,
Every time I think of me back when.
Innocent and raised up smart,
With a sail full of wind.
My course has changed,
I haven't been the same,
Now I'm out here fighting against the tide.
With a little Grace, I ask in God's name,
To get me to the other side.
(bridge)
I may not be strong enough (slow)
To climb to the other side of this hill...
Because of me this life is rough,
But I'll make it through with God's will.
(c)
Bang! Bang! Goes the beat of my heart,
Every time I think of me back when.
Innocent and raised up smart,
With a sail full of wind.
My course has changed,

103. “Brown Bag”
(i)
32 in a brown bag,
Tucked between my legs.
Trying to get there fast,
Away from my past,
I'm counting all of these damned days...
Until I can clear my mind,
Leaving you behind,
In the dust cloud of our love.
Sneaky feeling,
This cold beer,
Ain't gonna be enough.
(c)
Chugging 'em down,
Burning this road up...
Yeah, I'm running away.
Almost through town,
All out of love,
Gone for the rest of my days.
My bags are packed,
There's no turning back,
I'm sure there's something stronger I'll have to do.
For now,
Got this 32 in a brown bag to get me over you.
(ii)
Sip by sip,
On this lonely trip,
I can't stop thinking of you.
You wouldn't leave my house,
So you sent me south,
I guess we're living proof.
That time doesn't heal every cut,
Wish there was turbo in this old truck...
Still feeling (pause)
Like this cold beer ain't enough.
(bridge)
Didn't want to say "I'm sorry",
It would be another lie.
All my heart wants to do,
Is keep it in 'drive'.
(c)
Chugging 'em down,
Burning this road up,
Yeah, I'm running away.
Almost through town,
All out of love,
Gone for the rest of my days.
My bags are packed,
There's no turning back,
I'm sure there's something stronger I'll have to do.
But for now,
Got this 32 in a brown bag just to help me through.
Been a million broken hearts before me...
(poor me)
Shoulda bought a 40.
____________
104. "Full Moon"
(i)
I don't know who you are,
But I'm running 'round this town looking for you.
Hoping the night sky,
With this full moon,
Helps me find you real soon.
Been searching high and low,
From the set of the sun,
Up until the roosters crow
(c)
You could be a baby blue,
5 foot 2,
From Baton Rouge,
Born with your mama's eyes. (pause)
The prettiest girl sitting at this bar,
For that I'd be surprised.
Maybe my one and only,
Who's dying to show me,
What true love's all about.
Or that girl there,
Flipping her blonde hair,
With the tattoo under her blouse.
(ii)
Are you from Oklahoma or Kentucky?
Or the longhorn state,
That would be lucky.
Maybe with this full moon,
I'll get to find out tonight.
Not sure who you are,
Or what I'm looking for,
When I meet you,
I'll know if it's right.
(bridge)
Where you're from doesn't matter to me,
I'm open to any possibilities...
(c)
Could be the one for me,
From Mont-gom-ery.
Born with her momma's eyes. (pause)
The prettiest girl sitting at this bar,
For that I'd be surprised.
Maybe my one and only,
Who's dying to show me,
What true love's all about.
Or that girl there,
Flipping her red hair,
It's time I figure it out.
I think she's walking in now.
___________
105. "Preacher"
(i)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure,
I'm burning up in the near future.
This evil life I've led,
Never heard a damn thing the preacher said.
He'd teach the books,
And give me dirty looks,
Every time I didn't bow my head.
He'd say, "God bless you boy."
"One day we're gonna find you dead."
(c)
The preacher man is no friend of mine.
I drank all the backstock communion wine.
He keeps trying to tell me what to do...
But damnit, I don't want to.
I tell him,
I don't want you to speak for me,
I don't want the guilt you're passing down.
You say if I get on my knees,
I'll be a new man in this town.
Take a couple steps back,
Before I attack,
You up there on your stage.
My soul is going to Hell,
With my body full of rage.
(ii)
When I get down there,
Gonna grab a chair,
Cold beer with my friends and Dad.
He won't recognize me,
Probably
I was the son he never wanted to have.
We'll have plenty of time,
In the eternal flames to lie
'Bout how life wasn't all that bad.
How it was long enough,
And no one was ever sad.
(bridge)
Could've tried to listen to him.
The more I lied, the more I sinned.
Can't believe the fiery place I'm in
(c)
That preacher man was no friend of mine.
I drank all the communion wine.
Always tried telling me what to do...
But damnit I didn't want to.
I told him,
"Don't speak for me,
I don't want the guilt you're passing down."
He'd say if I got on my knees,
I'd be a new man in this town.
"Take a couple steps back,
Before I attack,
You up there on your stage."
My soul is going to Hell,
Cuz my body's full of rage.

106. "Passport In My Pocket"
(i)
Doesn't really matter where I go,
Long as you're not there.
Thinking 'bout all the money I'll blow.
Not sure I even care.
Now I'm spending my time,
In this ticket line,
Don't know where it'll take me...
London, France, or Mexico,
Maybe even Germany.
(c)
Got my passport in my pocket,
Without a plan.
Just getting as far away from you,
As I can.
Don't wanna spend another day,
Seeing your pretty mean face.
Giving you lots of space. (pause)
Gonna be a bigger man,
And it's time I take a stand.
With my passport in my pocket,
Without a plan.
(ii)
Security line is taking me forever.
I need a bar,
Sick of waiting here,
But happy we're not together.
No bags to check,
Only heartache to carry-on.
When I make it through,
I'll have a shot or two,
Then look for the plane I'm leaving on.
(c)
Got my passport in my pocket,
Without a plan.
Getting as far away from you,
As I can.
Don't wanna spend another day,
Seeing your pretty mean face.
I'm giving you lots of space.
Gonna be a bigger man.
It's time I take a stand,
With my passport in my pocket,
Now I have a plan.
(outro)
Flying over this border below...
Where she won't go,
Down to Mexico.
Casting away her memory there,
Sitting in a fighting chair...
Perfecting my plan,
No longer her man.
Sunburned with a cold beer in my hand.
_____________
107. "Reins"
(i)
Dirty wind under my wings,
Don't want to fly anymore.
Crazy how the truth sure stings,
Was never able to soar.
Continue to try,
Or say goodbye,
Not sure what I should do.
Guess that's why,
I'm sitting here talking to you.
(c)
Take the reins (hold),
Lead me to water.
Can't find my way to a brighter day,
My Hell's getting hotter.
When I turn left,
It's never right
(I) try to figure it out,
With all my might.
Show me to a better way,
And please take the reins.
(ii)
Never give up on me,
But for now, turn off the lights.
Draw my shades, and go away,
I wanna turn this day into night.
Even if I put my feet on the floor,
I wouldn't find the door.
Don't know what to do to fix my head.
Gonna stay here in this bed.
So...
(c)
Could you take the reins (hold),
Lead me to water.
Can't find my way to a brighter day,
My Hell's getting hotter.
When I turn left,
It's never right.
I try to figure it out,
With all my might.
Help me find my way,
Please take the reins.
___________
108. "My Wife's Truck"
(i)
My truck broke down,
On the edge of town,
And I had to call Triple A (AAA).
Always happens to me,
No matter how sweet,
I am to that Chevrolet.
The tow arrived,
And to my surprise,
The driver said, "Hi, my name is Steve."
We had the same name,
I couldn't believe.
(c)
Shoulda driven my wife's truck.
Then I wouldn't be stuck...
In this predicament,
With all my money spent.
Gonna cost me a million bucks,
For a tow, repairs and rental fares.
Doesn't seem fair. (pause)
New truck prices through the roof,
Nothing else to do...
Can't believe all my bad luck.
Shoulda driven my wife's truck.
(ii)
John, my service tech,
Went to work me up a quote.
He said, "You're out of warranty,
I just wanted to let you know."
So, I grabbed a seat in the lobby,
Snack machine and flatscreen tv in there.
I poured an old cup of coffee,
And got cozy in the pleather chair.
(c)
Shoulda driven my wife's truck.
Then I wouldn't be stuck...
In this predicament,
With lots of money to spend.
Gonna cost me a million bucks,
For a tow, repairs, and rental fares.
Doesn't seem fair. (pause)
New truck prices through the roof,
Nothing else to do...
Can't believe all of my bad luck,
Shoulda driven my wife's truck.
(iii)
A little time went by,
John came back in.
He said, "I'm sorry about your luck,
It's gonna take a while for the parts to come in."
"But I think I can fix your truck."
No need to wait,
Since it'll take a few days.
I decided to walk on home...
The sky opened up,
The rain poured down.
I'm in the dark soaking wet all alone.
(bridge)
Guess I'll say,
It's one of those days,
I'm not gonna catch a break.
At least I'm out of the rain,
Oh the mistakes we make...
(c-outro)
Shoulda driven my wife's truck.
Then I wouldn't be stuck.
My boots wouldn't be wet,
My next paycheck wouldn't be spent.
New parts cost a whole lot of cash...
Don't even know when I'll get her back.
Hope it doesn't take too long,
Gonna keep on keeping on.
Long overdue for some good luck.
Shoulda driven my wife's truck.

109. "How To Feed A Cow"
(i)
The auctioneer pointed your way,
It's just what you wanted, right?!
Ten beautiful cows,
From a farm that burned down,
You're taking them home tonight.
It's time you figure out...(slow)
What being a Cowman is all about...
Damn the price was right!
All you really need to know now is...
How to feed a cow.
(c)
(But) You can't just build a fence around a field of grass,
Then sit an watch your cattle grow.
Supplemental feed is necessary,
There's a few things you oughta know.
Different cow types,
Have different cow likes,
It depends on what you're raising them for.
Dairy in all the foods we love,
Or burgers, steaks, and more.
Sing-a-long and follow the words in this song,
It'll take you far.
Before you know it,
You'll be a Cattleman Rockstar!
(ii)
The milkers include Jersey, Holstein, and Brown Swiss.
To feed them right, simply follow along with this:
Minerals Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
And store your hay the right way.
Mold and spoilage give the cows a tummy ache.
Manage your pasture land,
With fresh grass and plants,
And keep some troughs with fresh water there.
Be sure to shoot all the coyotes,
They give the Mother Udders a scare.
(c)

(iii)
Are any of your cows Brahman, Hereford, or Angus?
Providing beef and leather for each and every one of us.
The will need to eat around 40 pounds per day...
A mixture of grass, corn, and hay.
And soon they'll show,
Just how fast they can grow.
(bridge)
Steer the steers and milkers clear of a stressful life.
Stop the neighborhood kids from cow tipping at night.
Cuz if not,
The mild and steaks won't taste quite right.
Making all Cowmen proud,
You know now,
How to feed a cow.
